Acupuncture works by stimulating nerves in muscles and other tissues, This affects the central nervous system and the production of endorphins (pain relieving chemicals). Increases in blood flow stimulate the heeling process.

Needles may be inserted for one or two seconds or may be left in for a few minutes or even longer depending on the desired effect.

Paul is used to treating needle phobic patients and is sensitive to their fears.   For patients who are needle phobic, alternative techniques without needles can be used.
